Privacy notice

Who we are

trace* is a research project developed by the HEAD Lab (Human Experience, Analysis & Design Engineering) within the Dyson School of Design Engineering at Imperial College London. Imperial College London is the data controller.

What we collect

The trace* website does not set tracking cookies and does not run analytics. The only personal information we receive is whatever you choose to send us via the contact form (currently a mailto: link) — your name, email address, optional subject, and message. That email travels through your local mail client toe.koumantou24@imperial.ac.uk.

The interactive demo at /demo runs entirely in your browser. The sample impacts shown are recorded fixtures from the iOS prototype; no data you view or interact with on this page is sent back to a server.

Lawful basis

Under UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f), we rely on legitimate interest to handle research enquiries you send us. You may withdraw consent at any time by emailing us to ask that your correspondence be deleted.

Retention

Email correspondence is kept for as long as it is necessary to respond to your enquiry and to maintain a record of research collaboration interest, typically no longer than 24 months. After that, messages are deleted.

Third parties

The site loads the DM Sans typeface from Google Fonts. Google Fonts may receive your IP address as part of serving the font — see Google'sPrivacy Policy for details. We do not share your information with any other third party.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal information we hold about you, and to object to its processing. To exercise these rights, emaile.koumantou24@imperial.ac.uk. You can also lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office atico.org.uk.

This notice was last updated on 2026-05-30. We will update it whenever our data-handling practices materially change.
